The Qualitative Research in Trials (QRiT) Group is part of the MRC TMRP Trial Conduct Working Group.
The QRiT group brings together members from across the United Kingdom and Ireland who are involved in, or have an interest in, qualitative research in trials. Our aim is to foster a supportive and collaborative community where members can share ideas, experiences, and best practices.
We meet approximately three times a year online, and encourage members to help set the agenda around ‘hot topics’ and areas of interest to cover (e.g. most recently the use of creative methods in health and social care research). We organise presentations from a range of speakers and encourage lively debate and discussion around qualitative research in trials, health and social care.
In addition to facilitating networking and knowledge exchange, we are committed to capacity building within the field. Through these activities, the QRiT groups aims to strengthen the role and impact of qualitative research in trials and support the growth of researchers at all career stages.
We welcome new members (members of the public, practitioners, researchers, students etc) with an interest in qualitative research and trials. You do not need to have prior experience or expertise in qualitative research to join!
We welcome international partners interested in methods around qualitative research in trials.
We attended the International Clinical Trials Methodology Conference (2024) in Edinburgh and presented a poster to launch a survey to gain views on the experiences of qualitative researchers working on trials in the UK/Ireland. We intend to build on the results of this survey to inform the future direction of the priorities for the QRiT group.
On behalf of the QRiT group, the co-leads are Project Partners in the NIHR Incubator for Applied Health and Care Methodology Seed Fund grant (2025-2026, led by Professor Clare Jinks) to establish a community of practice to co-create a capacity building hub for qualitative researchers in health and care researchers.
