Collaborative Methodological Research

The HTMR Network will fund proposals for methodological research and workshops in all areas relating to trials. Methods related to the following topics are particularly high priority for ongoing collaboration across the Network:

1. using existing evidence in the prioritisation, design, conduct and interpretation of trials

2. improving the design and efficiency of trials (e.g. through adaptive designs)

3. choosing appropriate outcome measures for trials

4. improving recruitment to, and retention in, trials

5. finding effective and efficient ways to conduct trials

6. improving the analysis of trials (e.g. dealing with missing data, treatment switches)

7. improving health economic evaluations

Who can Apply:

The lead applicant must be based at one of the Hubs for Trials Methodology Research. Each application must involve researchers from at least two of the core Hubs for Trials Methodology Research. Additional investigators from outside the Network, including MRC intramural and extramural investments, are encouraged to be co-applicants. Investigators from outside the Network are encouraged to contact their local Hub to discuss the research collaboration.

The Network is unlikely to fund activities which are longer than 12 months duration and greater than £50,000.

Deadline for Applications

For logistical reasons, project applications being considered at the April meeting must have a planned end date no later than 30 March 2014.

The next deadline for applications for funding will be 13:00 Friday 5 April 2013. For applications involving 4 or more Hubs as co-applicants, AND requesting £20,000 or more the deadline is 13:00 Monday 4 March 2013.

Please note, successful applications should have a start date at least two months after the funding meeting to allow time for contractual arrangements to be put in place. e.g. for the next meeting in April 2013, the proposed start date should be no earlier than 1 June 2013.

Successful applications from the April meeting must be completed by 30 March 2014 i.e. the maximum duration available for a new project being considered at the April meeting will be 10 months (1 June 2013- 30 March 2014).
